March is the time to start thinking about coming out of hibernation, and looking forward to the winter thaw. This month’s focus is on evaluating what’s working so far this year, and what could use some adjustments.
Winter Thaw For your clientele
Check in on your clients’ progress with their new year’s goals. Did your steps in January make a difference? Renew commitment to support them. Write down ideas on the post-it notes. Pick one, enter it on the calendar and do it.
Winter Thaw For your business
Use statistics to determine if your home page content is effective in bringing in new traffic and generating visitor interaction. Do new visitors answer the call to action, such as:
- by leaving their email address,
- making comments,
- submitting contact information,
- and/or calling?
Make changes where necessary.
tips and support
In case you missed last month’s post, there will be a free webinar on Tuesday, March 28th at 1pm EDT. We’ll discuss your website statistics – what they are and what to do with them. Sign up to receive reminders and access to the replay here.
You will receive two important messages:
- a short survey about your use of this calendar to see where adjustments can be made to better support your marketing goals for this year
- a worksheet for your home page content review
February is all about love. Showing appreciation for your loyal clients, and taking the time to recognize your own hard work by giving yourself the data to prove it to yourself.
Show the Love For your clientele
Show appreciation with a small thoughtful gift – it doesn’t have to cost much. Write ideas on the post-it notes — a simple thank you note, yummy treats, or take creative inspiration from Pinterest boards. Pick one, and mark “Client Appreciation Day” on the calendar. My thoughtful gift for you this month of ‘love’ is a free webinar training that will take place in March, 2017. Keep an eye out for more info!.
Show the Love For your business
Gather a snapshot of your current business metrics. This should include website statistics, gross revenue, growth in clientele, amount of return visits or repeat business, number of referrals, and advertising spend. Save this information as a benchmark for comparison at the end of this year, and plan to toast your success as you ring in 2018!
Tips and support
You’re invited to a free webinar to learn how to collect, and to make sense of, your website statistics. The live training will be on Tuesday, March 14th at 1pm EST. If you can’t make it live, still register to receive the recording afterward. You’ll be introduced to the basic website statistics you should be recording, why you need to be recording them, and what to do with that information afterward.

EDITED January 2018: The beauty of this calendar is the tips and suggested tasks are timeless and can be ‘rinsed and repeated’. So in that vein, watch for a new/republished post each month in 2018!
New Beginnings for your clientele
Find out what your clientele are striving for in the New Year, and how you can better support them. The easiest way to do this? Create a free survey either on your website using a form plugin, or with a service like Survey Monkey. Or, just email and ask! Once you’ve gotten some responses, brainstorm and write ideas on the post-it notes. Pick one, enter date on the calendar and implement it.
New Beginnings for your business
Create a marketing plan for the year. How will you let more of the world know how awesome you are, and how much better their lives would be with your business supporting them? Take the tried-and-true marketing strategies, add some fresh ideas, and set dates to make it all happen! Look ahead in the calendar and fill out post-it notes for the first quarter, or more. Then work the PLAN.

Any wall calendar is great for seeing the big picture, broken down into easy-to-implement, monthly steps. I recommend you read these monthly email/posts, and if you like to check things off, print the image below, then check off the tasks as you go through them.
Another tool I recommend is the Productive! planner from Shelagh Cummins. You can learn more about it, and order your copy, at shelaghcummins.com/productive. [NOTE added Jan 2018: Take advantage of Shelagh’s offer – the Productive! planner is FREE, you just pay the shipping! Welcome to your Simple Marketing Calendar for 2017! You received it as a gift from Online Empowerment – congratulations for choosing to take your service-based small business marketing to the next level!
Often we get caught up in the busy-ness of serving our clientele and our marketing plan is either forgotten or never created in the first place. Developing and executing a marketing plan doesn’t have to be stressful or time-consuming.
This calendar was created for busy, service-based small business owners like you. As a small business owner myself, I understand how difficult it can be to make time for marketing. Without a plan, our efforts are often wasted. Using two simple, focused tasks 1 to 2 hours per month, your marketing plan can be developed and executed with ease.
What you’re going to gain from using this marketing calendar
Planning makes things easier. When you think it through, record it and refer to it, your PLAN will help you get your message out consistently and without much effort. So you are able to do more of what you love about your business – serving your clientele!
How To Use The Simple Marketing Calendar
Every month you’ll see a ‘theme’ under the month name and three sections under the heading. The first two sections are simple, focused tasks for you to complete – total time investment should be 1 – 2 hours per month. The third section is a bonus tip from me. Check off the boxes in the sections once each task is complete.
The first section is “For my clientele” – this section includes a suggestion for connecting with your clientele to provide added value and/or to stay top-of-mind. They are often low- or no- cost actions to perform for your best clientele, or all of them if you’re so inclined.
The second section is “For my business” – this section outlines a simple, focused action for your business marketing activities. The goal of this task is to improve your online presence and it will often involve acquiring new knowledge.
The “Tips and support” section summarizes the tips and support to expect in monthly emails. The timely emails will always provide the necessary background – or point you in the right direction – to complete the first two tasks.
Every month a new blog post and email will provide you with detailed instructions and some suggestions for each of the sections. Do as much as you are comfortable with. Visit SimpleMarketingCalendar.com to view current and past blog posts.
Thank you for choosing to use this calendar to help you plan your marketing for 2017. I look forward to serving you and helping you grow your business!
